Nrl player charged with sex assault in San Diego
Former NFL defensive tackle Josh Mauga was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in San Diego, prosecutors said Friday.
The girl called the San Diego Sheriff's Office after Mauga told her a man had taken advantage of her for sex in the middle of the night in May, said Deputy District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
Prosecutors charged Mauga with lewd battery by an adult, a misdemeanor with a potential prison term of six months.
He did not enter a plea at the hearing.
Mauga, 26, is listed as a team spokesman on the team website, and the 49ers issued a statement saying Mauga is currently with the team.
Mauga, a native of Oakland, was an undrafted free agent in 2012. The 49ers traded him to the Green Bay Packers for a second-round pick in 2015. He has 15.5 sacks in 39 games with the Packers and Washington Redskins.

And the transition is changing. When the economy of the next century was not dependent on the traditional agricultural and manufacturing sectors, it now depends significantly on what is increasingly emerging as a global manufacturing base: digital technology."
A significant shift in the global economy would, the report notes, require governments, businesses and international organizations to adapt to the changing demands of the changing retail economy.
In addition to "transitioning" the retail industry, the report says the transition to digital-based economy, which includes the new digital economy that is emerging today, is the most important challenge facing governments and business for a number of reasons.
For one, it would force companies to respond to changing consumer preferences in a way that is not necessarily aligned with existing businesses.
The new digital economy will need to be designed for people's changing needs, the report says.
Companies must "shift from rigid, static designs and to a world that is dynamic, evolving, creative and constantly learning new ways to engage with and adapt to the changing needs of the world," the report says.
The report recommends the US government implement several measures to encourage international investment and encourage the "rebranding and re-mobilization" of a US retail economy focused on digital-first.
These steps include:
Ensuring that investment-led policy decisions are driven by "a better understanding of how the digital economy can help boost US business growth, creating jobs for Americans and strengthening the economy overall.
Promoting the return of US retail, and to ensure greater investment and investment-related jobs, to the future.
Strengthening trade relations to encourage greater connectivity between all countries across the world and to make trading more efficient.
A "fast-track" system would reduce red tape for companies to bring back to the US a retail strategy in a manner that works for consumers, and not just for their existing retailers.
Thereby, the report says, the transition of the US economy to the digital economy could begin as soon as 2025 if the current trajectory holds.
